Stan Wiederspan, owner of Wiederspan Gallery, is a producing artist whose studio is located within the gallery. He holds MA and MFA degrees from The School of Art and Art History from the University of Iowa. Throughout his professional career, Wiederspan has worked mainly in three distinct styles: traditional landscape/still life, painterly abstract, and site specific wall constructions. Each approach has served to enhance the creative drive for the others. Recently, the artist produced a series of photorealist paintings - "portraits" - of cardboard boxes. These were exhibited in a one-man show at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art and then at the O.K. Harris Gallery in New York, 2009. The unusual subject and aesthetic approach gained much attention and very successful sales. In contrast, a new series of vigorous abstracts explore color and motion, like "painted music sounds," that can invigorate any setting. And then, the landscapes. Being a romantic, Wiederspan creates quiet pastorals based on real places that invite the viewer to enter the space for a moment of poetic reflection. With the site specific commissions, the artist says he finds these exciting and rewarding because they present a design challenge that demands unique creative responses to the clients needs. Work by Stan Wiederspan can be found in various public, corporate, and private collections. Inquiries are invited. |
